Putrid:
-I'm homesick again.
-We haven't found anyone to take the room in our house yet, and Aimee accidentally told potential roommates to be here at 7. I'll only get home at 7 if I can leave at 6 on the dot, which never happens.
Pleasant:
-I have tomorrow off!
-Conversations with The Quebecois.
-I had a long phone conversation on Sunday with my old roommate from Hometown. She broke up with the guy she was seriously dating when we lived together, too. We're going to get together when I'm there in December.
-I'm going to be getting some more responsibilities at work in an area that I'm really interested in. I'm trying to make the best of my life in the City even though this is not where I want to be.
My one year Voxiversary was on August 31. I'd even put a note on my calendar so I didn't forget about it. And then I forgot to check my calendar.
Happy Voxiversary to me! This year has been really crazy and I can't imagine what it would have been like without all of you there to support me. Here's a little rundown of what went down:
-I went from living in apartment with my fiance, to living in my own apartment, to living with roommates. What's next? The plan is to move back in my parents and make my regression complete.
-I broke up with my fiance for being emotionally abusive and having unrealistic expectations of me. We've remained friends, despite his rebound. I still miss the good times fairly often, but I have to keep reminding myself of why it didn't work out because it's one of those things I'm not sure could change.
-I met some really awesome people, including Molly, Travis (even though he moved halfway around the world) and of course Christina.
-I gradually grew to love my job less and less, until the love turned to like, and the like turned into tolerate, and the tolerate turned into a general dislike with moments of hatred.
-I went on a lot of dates. Most of them sucked, but a couple were pretty good. When I finally met someone I did like, I turned into a drunken idiot and ended up without a favorite pair of earrings. I am still in my earring-less state.
-I quit playing World of Warcraft and started up again several times.
-I realized I didn't know what direction I wanted my life to go in, except that more than anything I want to go home.
Sweet:
-My credit union canceled almost all of my overdraft fees.
-Pike is paying me to work on a web project, and Corey is okay with it.
-I’m working on a blog post for my company. Blogging for work is fun!
-My dad is coming to visit me this weekend! I’m not sure how much I’ve blogged about this, but family is extremely important to me. My dad and I are exceptionally close. I really wish my brother could come, too, but I am really looking forward to spending the weekend with my dad.
Sour:
-Anna is being particularly cranky. She is annoyed because her underlings ask Corey questions and not her. We do this because Corey doesn’t bite heads off.
-She is also going to be here in my office basically all day because Molly is out sick. I could really use someone to talk to who is on my side. I miss Keith. He emailed me today.
Salty:
-Every time I see Lacey’s friend Meghan (twice this weekend, I guess Meghan is becoming my friend, too) I get interested in law school again, because she’s a law student. She’s in law school right now.
-It really depends on if I can get a high enough LSAT score to make it into the top law schools. One school (third tier) is having an online LSAT 101 course next week in the evening and I’ve signed up for it.
Minus:
-Anna blew up at me today. For a complete misunderstanding. Which I of course couldn't explain.
-The New Guy likes to wear social awkwardness on his sleeve.
-I still don't know what happened with Dan on Friday.
-Had to borrow money from my parents again because I have more loan payments due. I hate being near broke all the time! I can't even afford the new Luxe book. Sigh.
-I'm getting to bed too late again.
-It's Wednesday and my apartment is already a mess.
-I have a dentist appointment this month, I don't remember when, and I can't find my dental insurance card and I have no idea how much the copay is. If it's too much I may not be able to buy groceries this month.
Plus:
-
After mentioning to my parents that I was thinking about going to law school, they asked me to come up with a Pros and Cons list. So here it is!
Pros:
- Be part of a community of intelligent peers seeking knowledge and truth.
- Engage in problem solving--a lot of thinking involved!
- Do research; do something where I learn new things every day.
- Earn lots of money.
- Be part of a career with recognition and prestige.
- Do something with my public speaking skills.
- Be challenged!
- Lawyer/Attorney is listed as a top career for my personality type.
Cons:
- Lots more loans!
- I'd be 29 when I graduate from law school--almost 30!
- If I turned out to hate it, I'd be screwed!
- Competitive: people compete for grades at the top law schools, and competition to rise in the ranks at firms is tough.
- Long work hours.
- Have to deal with people who don't like you.
- Paperwork.
My 2009 To-Do List
When I was in grad school for speech pathology, we had to create goals for our clients and one of the major issues was that they be measurable. So instead of doing vague things like "get fit" I've tried to make my goals more specific.

2. It's so stupid!
3. Everyone is working on stuff that I'm not responsible for.
4. I shouldn't have to be there and I hate that I do.
*Not this one. I'm referring to a blog written under my real name instead of this pseudonym and more about stuff than my personal...issues.

Why is it so low after an entire weekend? Because I started over. I wanted to write something that was more reflective of how I’m feeling about Pike in hopes to get me through those issues.
I’m really excited about it right now. It’s about two characters (it’s still set in Hometown) that meet and fall crazily in love until they realize that they are really quite horrible together. It’s written in third person limited and split between the man (Marcus) detailing the events of their relationship and the woman (Astrid) detailing the events following the break-up.
I’m actually loving it quite a bit. I have the day off tomorrow and hopefully I’ll be able to get quite a bit of writing accomplished. I may have to use dares and long epigraphs to boost up my word count. I can always edit those things out later.
I really need to focus on work today to avoid instant messaging Pike saying those six words: “I think I made a mistake.” Because I don’t think I made a mistake. I just feel so lonely without him.

It's election day! Hardly any of my clients are in because they have two hours off to go vote. Keith has been in line for several hours.
All that was written yesterday at work, because get this: my computer is still broken. This is because I'm missing the screwdriver needed to take the harddrive out of the EMI shield. Very frustrating! Luckily I work in IT, and I found out that Anna's Crush has one (he has everything). So I'm sending Keith to go pick it up for me. Meanwhile my countertop at home is covered with all sorts of tools I'd used in and attempt to unscrew these screws.
My computer needs to be fixed so I can keep myself informed of the election results. I'd like to also get some writing done, because multitasking is good. We'd better know exactly who our next president is going to be before I go to sleep or I am going to hurt somebody.
Is everyone else as sick of this election stuff as I am?

“Oh gods* Cloudy what’s wrong with you? You didn’t manage to write a single word all weekend!”
Actually, I wrote 200 words of the novel on Saturday. Then my mother asked to use my computer. I left the room for a while, and when I came back, it seemed to be sleeping but would not wake up. My mom reported that it wouldn’t stop thinking so she’d just left it alone. I restarted it manually, but it would not start up and I heard a noise that said “hard drive failure.”
I found my receipt and it turned out it had gone out of warranty five days before.
We spent most of Sunday driving to an Apple store way out in the suburbs that had Genius bar appointments available. I told he guy I thought it was a hard drive failure and why, and he confirmed it. He told me the process I’d have to go through for them to replace the thing, and that I’d need to find someone else to attempt to get my data off my harddrive.
I said, “I do tech support so I think someone from my company can get my data off of it.”
“Oh, well you can just pick up a new harddrive and replace it yourself then,” he said, and told me what kind I needed.
It was off to Best Buy. At the store, I only found one hard drive that would work, and it was way more super powerful than I needed. We found a couple guys to ask, and one pointed to a sign of a cheaper, less powerful one that they didn’t have in stock, but I realized it was the wrong kind of harddrive, so I pointed this out.
“You really know your stuff!” said one of the guys.
“She works in IT,” said my mom.
“Oh really? Where?” the guy asked.
I explained my company and The Company we work for and he seemed impressed. It was unfortunate that my mother was there, since he was rather good looking. I don’t go into Best Buy much.
But I now have a replacement harddrive (my mother bought it for me since she was using my computer when it died—rather fortunate for me) and I just have to install it tonight. I’ll try to do some writing during the day today, but I just asked Anna for new projects, so I’m probably doomed to be busy.
Ooh! Ooh! My business cards are in already!
